Mining events diary 2012-13
25 July 2012
THE AusIMM will hold Australia’s first Critical Minerals conference in Perth, Western Australia, next June.
Australia’s peak mining industry professionals’ organisation said the 2013 conference would provide a forum for participants “across this next generation suite of 21st century minerals to come together to discuss both demand and supply-side developments in this rapidly emerging sector”. The overall theme of the conference would be ‘Critical Minerals – Mines, Markets, Manufacturing and Money’.
“We have secured commitments from Mr Mark Smith, CEO of Molycorp Inc, and Mr Gareth Hatch, an internationally recognised expert on rare earth magnets, as keynote speakers,” the AusIMM said this week. “In addition we are well advanced in our discussions with leading producers and consumers of other critical minerals to present at the conference.”
Meanwhile, the upcoming 34th International Geological Congress in Brisbane (August 5-10) is expected to attract more than 5000 delegates from over 112 countries. The IGC will cover all aspects of the geosciences, with 40% of the program said to be directly relevant to the mining and energy sector.
A spokesperson for host, The Australian Geoscience Council, said the conference would also cover important societal issues such as climate change, geo-hazards, human health and the future energy mix.
These and other events coming up around the mining world are listed here.
