Resource Gen gets go-ahead

SYDNEY, Mar 23 – Resource Generation is set to proceed with construction at its Boikarabelo coal mine in the Waterberg region of South Africa after receiving approval under the National Environmental Management Act.
The environmental authorisation by the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism enables the company to construct the mine, all required mine infrastructure and 36km rail link to the existing network.
Resource Generation is targeting Stage 1 coal production of 6Mtpa at Boikarabelo, where it has identified probable reserves of 744.8Mt on 35% of the tenements under its control.
Managing director Paul Jury said the approval applies for the life of the mine. “Once we have received our integrated water use licence and signed a contract with Transnet Freight Rail, we will then be able to proceed to finalise funding for project construction to commence.”
