Stander returns to Bushveld

JOHANNESBURG, Feb 2 – Bokoni Platinum Mines has gone back to the future with the appointment of Dawid Stander as managing director of its Bushveld Complex operation in South Africa.
Stander was general manager of the operation, then known as Lebowa Platinum Mines, during 2001 and 2005, a period when the mine expanded its annual production base by 100% from 100,000 oz to 200,000 oz PGM.
Announcing the appointment, Bokoni joint venture owners Anooraq and Anglo American Platinum noted the significant growth under Stander’s previous leadership also brought safety, operational and financial performance improvements.
In 32 years in South African mining, Stander has also held senior positions at BHP Billiton, Amplats and Impala Platinum.
