IT notebook: Devex receives certification
Staff reporter, 15 December 2011
BRAZIL’S Devex has received conformity certification from the relevant authority in the country for its Smartmine Tracker SMT100C mobile mine machinery onboard computer.
Devex said the Brazilian Certification Association (Associacao NCC Certificacoes do Brasil) had granted the certification after extensive testing. The technology company’s SMTracker unit processes and interprets vehicle ‘health’ and other data in real time, and sends data to central site control computers.
“The equipment … needed extra protection. We did not want dust, for example, to hinder the productivity of our product,” Devex engineer Daniela Souto said. “Now, with the Tracker, there is no external factor capable of affecting the operation of the product.”
To receive the certification, the Tracker went through rigorous tests at the University of Sao Paulo-USP, in Sao Paulo. Souto said a team from Devex was able to follow all procedures laid down by the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms and also by the country’s Inmetro National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology.
“The equipment was subjected to real situations, yet more dramatic than those experienced in the mine, such as storms and wind storms that are followed by fine dust generated by the iron ore,” he said.
The protection standard IP65 granted by the ANCB was recognised worldwide.
“With the Tracker certification, we are sure that Smartmine will be protected and no longer exposed to the phenomena of nature,” Souto said.
